Rediscovering Nintendo 64 Classics

A classic Nintendo N64 console with a game cartridge of a Goldeneye 007 N64 game

The Nintendo 64, released in the mid-90s to compete with consoles such as Sega Saturn and Super NES, boasts a 3D gaming experience unparalleled during its time. This fifth-generation console set itself apart through its incredibly fast load times brought by cartridge based system and an amazing array of over 300 games. That includes some iconic titles like The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, GoldenEye 007 and Mario Kat 64, which are now available at our store or online to enjoy too. The Nintendo n64 console and games were produced in massive quantities at the time, but now finding one in pristine condition in the wild is getting harder each day. Most consoles will show signs of wear and minimal marks due to age, but that is just how it is you should not let it stop you from buying a Nintendo N64 again and rediscovering those memories. We source only the best consoles and refurbish them ready for customers to enjoy. Technically the there was a peripheral released called the “64DD” which was a commercial failure, but overall, the N64 was one of the most successful consoles of all time. The single joystick in the middle of the controller is not everyone’s idea of a superior design, but some swear by it and wouldn’t' have it any other way. That was part of what made this console revolutionary at the time, but in my opinion it was the release of many incredible first party games that really sold the system and gave it it's iconic status then and today.

Nostalgic Multiplayer Experiences

Enjoying a Nintendo 64 today offers gamers the chance to relive a classic era of gaming with games such as Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64. Up to four players can get together for intense competitions that hark back to an earlier generation of Nintendo’s console history. Super Smash Bros is a game I have to mention as it isn’t really a traditional fighter, it mixes in advanced platforming mechanics, a changed scoring system, and power ups into gameplay that sets the chaotic 4 person brawl apart from the competition and create a truly unique gaming experience. It's a nice touch that the 12 playable characters belonged to popular franchises like Zelda and Pokémon, that is where Nintendo shined as they could leverage other characters they owned and mix them into new games. Do not let the Nintendo N64 remain in the past, why not remember those gaming moments again and pick up another console set? Call your old friends and take them on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Play your favourite titles again just like you did in the good old days! I did this recently and my old mates and I made new memories and had a night of laughs. It may not be the same as it was when we were kids, but who wants to grow up anyway?

Controllers and Accessories

You can purchase a genuine Nintendo 64 controller, aftermarket accessories and everything you need to get playing again. The good news is all the parts, accessories and things like the expansion pack are still available. The rumble pak is a must if you ask me as it works so well on compatible games, it gives sound and feel to games so using this rumble pak and a controller unlocks an enjoyable 3D experience reminiscent of the legendary console’s heyday, allowing you to access nostalgia like never before! The Expansion pack (Pak as Nintendo calls it) gives you the extra 4MB RAM you need to play games like Donkey Kong 64 and to run the game in an enhanced mode. It was marketed as improving the games frame rate and distance rendering, but the rumours are that the Rare programmer Chris Marlow could not resolve a bug during development without the pak installed, so Nintendo was forced to bundle the expansion pak in with the game.

Comparing Nintendo 64 to Its Successors

The Nintendo 64 was a groundbreaking force in the gaming world, with its 3D graphics and analogue control sticks paving the way for others to follow. This console contained an impressive library of over 300 games, which set it apart from earlier consoles. Many classic n64 games were created, such as Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, GoldenEye 007 or Star Fox, all powered by the powerful processor compared to their 32-bit successor’s processors. Truely speaking the N64 console competed with the original Sony PlayStation and the Sega Saturn, both of which could produce stunning 3D graphics. Some swear the PS1 was better, and technically it probably was, but the games are what sell a system and not the specs. The good old SEGA Saturn was a 2D monster that could do also 3D games. If SEGA had put more effort into this console and really worked out how to push the hardware, I think the history books would have been rewritten. Microsoft hadn’t entered the arena with the XBOX at this point in time which I think let the N64 dominate.

Its influence on gamers remains clear today due largely to these inventive titles that inspired developers across generations since then who strive off this game changing machine’s imagination expressed through avatars or characters within virtual reality scenarios played out while receiving feedback/directions dictated via one’s own movements occurring within our living rooms! Its legacy is unparalleled given how many innovations stemmed from its release alone, which continues strong right into modern day consoles deriving gameplay techniques & experiences found first here upon released back in 1996 though Nintendo itself has not been able to again replicate nor have they offered anything quite so revolutionary yet similar until recently once again, but still cannot hold a candle next to it.

Customising Your Nintendo 64 Experience

Making your Nintendo 64 experience more tailored to you can be extremely rewarding. There are several ways of doing this, ranging from picking up a Funtastic controller, an aftermarket adapter or installing the incredible HDMI mods from pixelfx.co. One could also take advantage of other modifications that enhance gameplay performance or explore additional accessories made specifically for the N64. Another good example is an RGB mod made by Tim Worthington to give you the best possible video quality on an old CRT TV if you're a scanline purist. Taking the N64 into the digital world of HDMI is a good step today as it allows you to take advantage of modern TV's with 4K displays and the ease of plug n play. There are many HDMI options for the Nintendo 64 and some to suit all budgets.
