Famicom AV / RGB Mod

Repair Service

Composite Video Upgrade or optional RGB video upgrade

This is an upgrade service for the original Japanese Famicom console.

We can upgrade the old girl to output composite video via a few RCA jacks we place on the side of the case. We can optionally upgrade to RGB video which is a higher quality output, but requires more hardware like an upscaler to accept RGB.

Overall this mod is an upgrade over the factory RF output which is very poor. The Japanese RF signal will never tune into an Australian TV as the signal is incompatible, so if you want to simply plug n play your Famicom in Australia, then this mod is what you need.

Included

  • AV Mod - RCA jacks mounted on the side. No AV cable
  • RGB Mod - RGB board installed, DIN socket mounted to case, RGB SCART cable provided.

For reference the RGB parts are expensive and purchased directly from Tim Worthington at the eTim store. There are $194 of parts alone for the RGB mod as it requires the RGB board, Adapter & Cable. We factor these overheads into our costs below.

IMPORTANT for RGB mods

  1. Tell us which EXACT console you're sending if not the expected Famicom.
  2. Tell us which device you're plugging this into. For example, if you want an RGB mod then we need to know if you're using an upscaler like the OSSC or Retro Tink or a PVM that can accept RGB. The sync type and cable type used are very important, so it's best we talk through the job via email or phone before ordering.
  3. NOTE: By default we supply the RGB cable to go with an RGB mod. We supply the eTim 8pin DIN style to SCART cable.
